How to Integrate Shopify with Facebook

Gone are the days when sharing what you ate for lunch and cyber-spying on your ex were the only uses for the website called Facebook. Rather, these days, we use the social media maven for everything from exploring the daily news to setting up and RSVPing to events. (Okay — admittedly, we still do a little bit of cyber-spying, too.)

However, as social media transforms from status-sharing sites to one-stop hubs for all things entertainment, users are becoming more comfortable with shopping directly from their social feeds. As a result, smart entrepreneurs can gain more visibility in front of their target audience, avail themselves of powerful marketing tools, and even convert direct sales. So, let’s discuss how to integrate your Shopify store with Facebook so you, too, can boost profits and connect more effectively with potential shoppers.

How to Integrate Your Shopify Store with Facebook

Before getting started, you’ll need admin access to an active, published Facebook page. It’s also important to ensure your Facebook page is linked with a Facebook Business Manager and Facebook Ad Account, to which you also need admin access of both.

As with most Shopify apps, integrating with Facebook is a relatively simple process. However, follow these steps carefully to ensure smooth installation:

Step One: Insert Facebook’s Tracking Pixel to Your Shopify Site

Facebook’s tracking pixel (often simply referred to as “the pixel”) is an analytical tool that monitors and reports users’ behavior on your site. In other words, it tracks metrics on Facebook such as clicks and conversions to help you measure the effectiveness of your store, products, and ads.

Users can install the pixel code directly onto site pages, but Shopify doesn’t recommend that without advanced HTML experience. However, thankfully, Shopify does offer another, non-code method:

  1. First, navigate to your Facebook Ads Manager on your business Facebook page.
  2. Next, under the Measure & Report section, select Pixels.
  3. Here, highlight and copy your Pixel ID number.
  4. Then, go to your Shopify store, log in, and under the Online Store section, choose Preferences.
  5. Scroll to the Facebook Pixel section and paste pixel ID in the designated box.

Step Two: Install the Facebook Channel on Shopify

Next, you’ll need to add the Facebook channel to your Shopify site.

  1. Log in to your Shopify admin and click the Add (+) button next to Sales Channels.
  2. Then, scroll, and click the Add (+) button next to Facebook.
  3. Under Facebook Shop, choose Start Setup. (Here you’ll also notice options for access to Instagram Shopping as well as Facebook Marketing. Follow similar prompts to add those features, if you desire. If not, just ignore them.)
  4. Follow the prompts to connect your Facebook account.
  • Be sure to correctly choose the corresponding Business Manager, Facebook Page, and Pixel Tracking if you have access to multiple. Otherwise, you could run into issues connecting later on.
  • Also, do allow Facebook to create a commerce account; this is a Facebook requirement, but it doesn’t really mean much from the user’s perspective.
  • Then, click on to Review Terms and Accept.
  • Finally, click Finish Setup.

Step Three: Review Your Products

Shopify will add a Facebook button underneath the Sales Channels on your main admin dashboard. Clicking on it will allow you to monitor and update the products on your Facebook store.

You can choose View All Products to see a list of the products approved to sell on Facebook. All of your approved products will automatically be added to your Facebook store. However, you may add or remove the checkmark from a box in the Available on Facebook section to add or remove the corresponding product from Facebook.
